 Diagnostic Characteristics:
Glossy dark leaves are 1.5-4" long by 1-2" wide (smaller than Ulmus americana), simple, alternate, unequal at base (oblique), doubly serrate with 12 parallel veins from mid-vein to the teeth. Veins pubescent on the underside of the leaf. The petiole is usually pubescent. Buds have soft silky pubescence.

Additional Information

Very good resistance to the Dutch elm disease pathogen, Ophiostoma ulmi, which has led to the near extinction of the American Elm (Ulmus americana) in the U.S. Also has good resistance against phloem necrosis, elm leaf beetle, and leaf miner.
